Prayers Please…

I debated on whether to even post because I usually keep my blog about the lighter side of life, but I have been getting a lot of emails and messages asking about my trip to Maine last weekend and wondering where I am and if I am OK so I decided a quick post was the way to go to reach as many as possible.

I am fine and my trip was wonderful – more on that later when time permits. But just when I was getting caught up in chores and laundry and getting pictures taken of my new treasures  and dealing with all the other stuff that happens when you dare to take off for a few days, my dad was rushed to the ER with rectal bleeding yesterday afternoon and that is my concern right now. My mom and I spent the rest of the day and part of the night there with him. He isn’t bleeding anymore but they need to find out why that happened so they admitted him. He is supposed to have tests, like a colonoscopy,  to get to the bottom of this. But when I spoke to him just now -  not a thing was done all night. No prep drinks, nothing. He hasn’t even seen a Dr even since 7:30 ish last night. He's 88 and handicapped ...and has a heart that doesn't pump at full speed - they should take that into consideration. I tried to get some answers from his floor nurse and she knew nothing either. (I am his health care proxy and next of kin.) And this is at a top notch world renowned medical center too. It is very frustrating to say the least.

So my focus will be on parents for the time being. Making sure my dad gets the care he needs and making sure my mom is OK too. I’ll be back when I can. If I don’t answer emails or comments or moderate your comment or read blogs, you’ll know why. Please keep my dad in your prayers if you are so inclined. Thanks so much!

hugs, Grammy Linda

My grandfather has been going throught the same exact thing for the past few months & they do not know what is wrong with him either. It is so frustrating when we pay so much for health care & our doctors are supposed to be top notch!! I will definitely keep your dad in my prayers & the rest of your family as well! Make sure you take care of yourself while taking care of your parents!!!

I'm praying for your daddy right now Linda. You and your mom hang in there. We serve a mighty God and he will bring your dad thru this.

Not trying to sound like a know it all, but maybe have them check his iron levels. My dads level was off the charts and this had caused him to have rectal bleeding. Another time his doctor had prescribed too high of dossage of aspirin for him to take and after some time, the same thing happened again.

Blessings,
AMY

Will be thinking of you, Lin.Having a elderly mom that I also care for, I know how you feel. What people do that do not have a nurse in the family is beyond me because the system is so screwed up. Hope all goes well. Keep me posted.

Oh Linda! I certainly will keep all of you in my prayers! It is hard for us when our parents aren't feeling well, and I know you feel such a huge responsibility to help them get the best care possible! And of course take care of Mom too! I have been going through that recently as well...so I understand! Take care of you, too!

Dear Linda....Your Dad and you and your Mom will all be in my prayers. I know how non-sensical and frustrating healthcare is today. Both my parents are very ill with serious and potentially fatal outcomes.I truly feel your pain! Let's hope this is something treatable, and he will be sitting at your house Thanksgiving eating a huge meal!
And never worry about sharing with Blog Friends what is on your mind...We Care.

You truly are the Great Physician and right now with man, things are impossible, but with You all things are possible. You can get things moving Lord God in a way that no Dr., nurse, or administrator could!

Oh Linda, you know you and your family have my sincere prayers! I pray that the medical staff will realize the seriousness of this and the health your Dad is in and get things started stat!!! A family should not have to deal with this, but it seems to be the norm unless you have an advocate that has to become very demanding. It seems we have to become the person we are not so fond of to get things done. Try to stay optimistic. Lean on each other during this trying time but know that God truly carries us through tough times. Just know that we all care and will keep you close to our hearts, thoughts and prayers. Hugs to you and your Mom! Sherrie

Prayers going up for you Dear Dad, and also that his health care providers step in and take action NOW! I know it's not always a serious thing when there's rectal bleeding (even profuse), but still a definite concern to check out completely & quickly. My dad had this a few years ago and it was a benign polyp. Also, my FIL is 88. Still doing pretty well, thank goodness.. and I hope the same for your Dad! Keeping your family in my prayers! -Tammy

Prayers going out for your family...remain a strong advocate for your dad, and be vocal...unfortunately, our family learned that this is sometimes the only way to get through to medical personal sometimes.

How thoughtful it was for you to take the time to tell us all about this during your crisis!
As a former nurse, I understand how frustrating it is trying to get answers during times like this. There are so many unknowns and that causes a great deal of stress. I left the healthcare field because even I was frustrated with the system.
I will pray for your dear dad and for you and yours to have a sense of peace during this most difficult time!! *hug*
Again, I am so impressed with your graciousness and caring for your friends here.

Best wishes from a new follower.

So sorry to hear of your fathers health issues, I hope by now they have him stabilized and comfortable. With the bleeding stopped, I guess the best thing to do is stop and think which test are most needed and in what order they are needed. As a former XRay Tech and having a daughter an RN we have both seen cases where MD's moved to quick with bad results.I hope today has brought better news. Prayers for you and the family for his speedy recovery and homecoming.
By the way I am also Grammy Linda to two grandsons.
